POWDERFINGER AND SILVERCHAIR TOUR ANNOUNCES ONE MORE GIG ... IN YOUR LOUNGEROOM!
After embarking on the biggest concert tour this country has seen in a decade - across, around and ALL over Australia from Darwin to Ballarat to Toowoomba to Tasmania - the tour’s final show is coming to your loungeroom this Christmas with the release of a deluxe triple DVD.
This special three disc release is strictly a limited edition and will not be manufactured again after the 2007 holiday season. Fans can pre order the DVD from 12noon (Qld time), Monday, 19 November from www.acrossthegreatdivide.com.au/shop to receive a FREE Powderfinger or Silverchair T Shirt (stocks and sizes are strictly limited).
Come and play with Australia’s two biggest rock bands – POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR - as they take you on a personal journey with this massive touring juggernaut.
The first two discs of the Across the Great Divide Tour DVD feature full length live sets from both bands, including the duet ‘Substitute’, recorded at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on 18 and 19 September, 2007. Both discs have been mixed in the U.S. in 5.1 surround sound by the people who have each mixed studio albums for these bands.
The team behind the filming, PVC LIVE, have created concert specials for the likes of U2, Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their coverage of the Melbourne show featured an extraordinary 24 cameras so these concert DVD’s are on a whole new scale for Australian bands … just like the tour itself!
The third disc of this limited edition set is a candid 90 minute documentary film featuring all the hilarious action behind the scenes as this special tour makes its way Across the Great Divide.
Your Access All Areas pass is a 3 disc limited edition package which also includes a colour booklet featuring candid backstage shots. This is a must for every music fan and anyone that wants to relive this extraordinary tour.
Kicking off the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in SILVERCHAIR’s hometown before moving to POWDERFINGER’s backyard, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE bridged the gap between the country and the big smoke with this rock & roll tour. It also shone a light on the important cause of Reconciliation in which both bands strongly believe.
Silverchair’s Daniel Johns said "It was an amazing tour but so much went on that it all seems like a bit of a blur to me now. I'm looking forward to watching these DVD’s so I can find out what actually happened."
“Across The Great Divide was ten weeks of hotels, concerts, planes, eye make up lessons, laughs, learning, homesickness, euphoria, sweat, no blood (that I recall), and maybe a few tears when it all came to an end. They were the best shows of our lives and it was such a great experience meeting the people we did and seeing all four corners of our country. Most importantly we started a few conversations about reconciliation along the way and as a complete bonus the silverchaps didn't bust any of our gear on the load out! Onya Fellas. Thanks for coming Australia” said Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning.
Also on 1 December POWDERFINGER are releasing their third single “Nobody Sees” from the triple platinum album ‘Dream Days At The Hotel Existence’. The digital only release includes previously unreleased live versions of 'Nobody Sees', 'Head Up In The Clouds' and 'Wishing On The Same Moon' plus an amazing live performance of 'Lost and Running' from the 2007 ARIA Awards. Powderfinger have also just closed National Breast Cancer month by playing the biggest ever MAX Sessions at sunset on the steps of the iconic Sydney Opera House. A historical moment with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge were lit up a brilliant shade of pink for the evening.
SILVERCHAIR swept the 2007 ARIA Awards winning 5 ARIA’s all up - including the prestigious Album of the Year Award for “Young Modern”, taking the band’s career tally to 19. Available in stores now is the repackaged limited edition album, which includes a bonus DVD featuring “The Making Of Young Modern” documentary plus the ARIA Award winning video “Straight Lines”. Also available online from Saturday December 1 is the exclusive itunes album with a radically retooled version of “Straight Lines” – remixed by acclaimed Sydney duo The Presets.
The Across the Great Divide DVD will be released by Universal Music Australia on Saturday, 1 December 2007.

ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE FORCED TO POSTPONE TONIGHT'S BALLARAT SHOW
POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR have been forced to postpone tonight’s show at the Ballarat Showgrounds due to high winds earlier today tearing a massive hole in the tent.
Strong winds earlier today caused a 15 metre tear to the roof of the tent which was being erected to house tonight’s Across the Great Divide show.
The promoters and local authorities have been on site assessing the damage and have agreed that the tent cannot be safely repaired under the current weather conditions, and in light of the Severe Weather Warning which has been posted by the Department of Meteorology.
When making the decision to postpone the show, the promoter’s primary consideration was for the safety of the audience and the performers.
The promoters hope to reschedule the show for tomorrow evening, Monday 17 September, subject to the weather clearing to allow repairs.
All tickets issued will be valid for the rescheduled performance. Ticket holders are urged to go to www.acrossthegreatdivide.com.au for further updates. A further statement will be issued by the promoters by noon tomorrow.

THESE DAYS POWDERFINGER & SILVERCHAIR GET THEIR FREAK ON!
Across The Great Divide kicked off officially last night with the first show rocking the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and showing exactly why this will be a tour no one will want to miss! The last time they shared a Novocastrian stage was back in 1994 when both bands supported Pantera…this time around they showed Newcastle exactly what they are made of!
Silverchair rolled into Young Modern Station starting with the title track of their latest album and ending with their classic Freak, with a whole lot of carriages in between of new songs and old favourites. Ben Gillies said “There’s nothing like playing to a home town crowd. Having our friends and family there made a special show even more special!”
Then Powderfinger roared through a Thrillology of a set playing the first song off their new album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence and ending with favourite These Days. Emotion was high when Bernard performed Black Tears to a silent crowd. “Wow, what an audience to kick off the tour. We can’t wait to get home to Brisbane and play for everyone up there, then, bloody hell … another eight weeks. Bring it on” Bernard Fanning said as he came off stage.
Joining these two bands onstage was Northern Territory locals Nabarlek with a smashing rendition of Down Under closing their set. They started the conversation with the rest of the bands continuing! Before Silverchair took the stage, a welcome to country from Bernard Fanning and Daniel Johns opened the show.

ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE, UP FOR A SPOT OF KISSCHASY
POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR have announced a MAJOR addition to their Darwin and Cairns shows, with the news that punk pop darlings of the moment KISSCHASY will be joining their Across The Great Divide tour.
Shows are completely SOLD OUT in Melbourne and Brisbane, with limited tickets available for the second shows announced in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Wollongong, Newcastle and Townsville. The rest of the tour will soon to follow suit and with the announcement of this and other outstanding supports, fans are advised to get in quick!
Riding high on the release of their second album ‘Hymns For The Non Believer’, KISSCHASY have become one of this country’s favourite pop rock outfits. Experiencing the kind of popularity only touched on after their last release, KISSCHASY are more engaging, more intriguing and more alive on stage than they’ve ever been. Lucky Across the Great Divide audiences will see them in DARWIN (October 5) and CAIRNS (October 7).
The eclectic list of choices for support reflects both bands’ desire to cover several different bases with the selection of the opening artists. Due to the tour’s association with www.reconcile.org.au Silverchair and Powderfinger wanted to involve some artists with a connection to indigenous Australia (eg: Blue King Brown). Both bands also had some new indie bands like The Scare and Something with Numbers that they wanted to help expose to a broader audience. There was also a desire to use local groups in some cities and then there were some more established artists like Beautiful Girls and old friends such as Dan Kelly and Andrew Morris who will help make these shows even more special for bands and fans alike.
Itching to get out of the rehearsal room and in front of crowds, POWDERFINGER captivated audiences in Karratha on the weekend, when they went AWOL for Triple J, pulling in a crowd in excess of 10,000 - some of whom had driven from Perth and Darwin! The band trialled their set for Across the Great Divide to rapturous results, and are dead keen to hit the road next week.
Meanwhile, SILVERCHAIR are racking up frequent flyer points on an overseas tour that's taken in sold out US and Canadian shows over recent weeks. That jaunt climaxed with a main stage Lollapalooza performance alongside Bright Eyes and the Arcade Fire that attracted rave reviews. The band is now in Europe playing sold out dates in the UK and across the continent.

Supports for Across The Great Divide announced!
POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR have announced the opening artists for most their Across The Great Divide tour, with news that THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS, YOUTH GROUP, BLUE KING BROWN, KEV CARMODY, DAN KELLY, THE SCARE and more will be joining the reconciliation conversation on various dates.
The close to thirty shows on the tour will play host to a variety of special guest opening artists from around the country, each band bringing their own flavour to an already huge mouthful of music.
Shows are sold out in Melbourne and Brisbane but limited tickets are still available for the second shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Wollongong, Newcastle and Townsville. Tickets are also selling fast for all the regional shows and with this first announcement of outstanding special guests, fans are advised to get in quick!
The artists who will be opening dates on this tour are as follows …
THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS are riding high on the release of their third record, Ziggurats. Growing solidly and consistently, both in sound and popularity, the band have remained proudly independent, showcasing their reggae infused rock n roll to a very welcoming Aussie audience. Catch THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS on Across The Great Divide in CANBERRA (11 September), WODONGA (12 September) and MILDURA (14 September).
EXPATRIATE have endeared themselves to Aussie audiences over 2007 with the release of their debut album In The Midst Of This and having the tour van in constant motion. A sold out national tour, multiple festival appearances, and supports including Wolfmother, Simple Minds and Powderfinger, these boys will be well at home on the stage in MELBOURNE (19 September), PERTH (22 + 23 September) and ADELAIDE (26 & 27 September).
Together since the late 1990’s Sydney band YOUTH GROUP found their time to shine in 2006 with the release of their third record, Casino Twilight Dogs. Touring internationally with Death Cab For Cutie and finding a firm place on Aussie festival stages, this group of talented song writers will find themselves on stage with Powderfinger and Silverchair in SYDNEY (9 September) and Wollongong (24 October).
Festival favourites BLUE KING BROWN have made a huge impact on the Australian music scene in their short time together. Their release of their debut album solidified the acclaim for their catchy, reggae fuelled pop, driven by the distinctive vocals and lyrics of front woman Natalie Pa’apa’a. Activists in their own right, BLUE KING BROWN will fit right in on stage in BRISBANE (31 August), TAMWORTH (4 September) and COFFS HARBOUR (6 September).
Melbourne boy DAN KELLY has become one of the darlings of Australian acoustic rock, following in the steps of his much revered uncle Paul. With 4 ARIA nominations, two acclaimed records and an album of the year award under his belt, you’ll catch him in solo mode in MELBOURNE (18 September).
Sunshine Coast born, THE SCARE have recently made the UK their home, with appearances on the Reading and Leeds festival circuit in 2007. Expect their debut album to hit Australia October 6th via Below Par/EMI and catch them on stage in GOLD COAST (2 September) and SYDNEY (8 September).
Aboriginal Australia has many contemporary musical voices, and KEV CARMODY is often revered as one of the ultimate inspirations. Touted as the black Australian Bob Dylan, his blunt but eloquent protest songs and grit-edged voice has brought awareness to Aboriginal issues over the past 18 years. Powderfinger and Silverchair are honoured to have Kev join Across the Great Divide in TOOWOOMBA (14 October).
Central Coast lads SOMETHING WITH NUMBERS have grown from being the ‘emo punk’ band in their early years, to fully fledged rock n roll powerhouse in 2007. About to kick off a huge national tour with Grinspoon, they’ll jump from one stage to another when they play BENDIGO (15 September).
From Arnhem Land in the NT, NABARLEK will make their way Across the Great Divide to join Powderfinger and Silverchair live on stage. Playing tracks from their third record Manmoyi Radio, expect songs based on traditional stories, with a little bit of Men At Work thrown in. Part of the new wave of Indigenous music emerging from Arnhem Land, NARBARLEK is the garage band that never had a garage. See them kick off the tour in NEWCASTLE (29 August).
EPICURE emerged from Ballarat’s local live scene as fresh faced young lads, and they’ve now solidified themselves as one of its proudest success stories. Currently in the studio and working towards a tour with Mia Dyson, these crooners will join Across the Great Divide in their hometown, BALLARAT (16 September).
From rocking inner city pubs and clubs to outback shacks, WIRE MC has been breaking new ground with his Bowra-mission-hip hop-drop-bush-reggae style. A true voice for his people, see WIRE MC in WOLLONGONG (23 October).
Brisbane will get its hands on another of their great local produce, when singer songwriter ANDREW MORRIS adds his own brand of alt-country balladry to the tour. Fresh from the release of second album Valleys, see Andrew and band join the tour on stage in BRISBANE (1 September) and TOWNSVILLE (8 October).
From the clan of triple j and festival favourites Local Knowledge comes Australia’s deadliest new rap sensation, STREET WARRIORS. Having been on stage at Homebake, The Great Escape, Groovin The Moo and more, these brothers are proudly and fiercely presenting their strong aboriginal heritage. The debut album is on the way, so be prepared! In the meantime see STREET WARRIORS in their hometown of NEWCASTLE (26 Oct).
Opening artist announcements for Darwin and the North Queensland shows in the near future will cap off an already amazing musical offering.
This eclectic list of choices reflects both bands’ desire to cover several different bases with the selection of their special guests. Due to the tour’s association with www.reconcile.org.au Silverchair and Powderfinger wanted to involve some artists with a connection to indigenous Australia (eg: Narbarlek, Kev Carmody and Blue King Brown). Both bands also had some new indie bands like The Scare and Expatriate that they wanted to help expose to a broader audience. There was also a desire to use local groups in some cities and then there were some more established artists like Beautiful Girls and old friends such as Dan Kelly and Andrew Morris who will help make these shows even more special for bands and fans alike.
In their first big warm-up show leading into Across the Great Divide, POWDERFINGER played a killer headline set at Splendour in the Grass earlier this month. In front of a sold-out festival crowd, the band performed a bunch of live favourites and previewed new tracks from Dream Days at the Hotel Existence, including the cracking new single, "I Don't Remember".
With a video that went straight to high rotation on all video music channels, and storming up the Australian radio airplay chart, "I Don't Remember" was released exclusively digitally via iTunes on July 31. The iTunes release will feature an exclusive bonus track - a haunting live version of “Black Tears”. The in-store single features two bonus tracks recorded LIVE in June 2007 at the Brisbane Powerhouse – Who Really Cares (featuring the sound of insanity) and perennial ‘Finger favourite, “My Kind of Scene”. This version of the single will be in-stores August 11.
Meanwhile, SILVERCHAIR are racking up frequent flyer points on an overseas tour that's taken in sold out US and Canadian shows over recent weeks. That jaunt climaxed with a mainstage Lollapalooza performance alongside Bright Eyes and the Arcade Fire that attracted rave reviews. The band is now in Europe playing sold out dates in the UK and across the continent.
On the back of all this touring Young Modern debuted at #70 in America and #25 in Canada this week following the best critical reception of the group's international career. Silverchair is also on a huge roll at U.S. radio where "Straight Lines" has cracked the top 20 on the modern rock airplay charts and is also attracting airplay at other radio formats for the first time in the band’s career. In another all time first, VH1, FUSE and MTV2 are all flogging Silverchair's video leading many to tip a big future for Young Modern in North America over coming months.

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre will host two sold out nights of Across the Great Divide on August 31 and September 1 with the Rod Laver Arena backing up for their two shows on September 18 and 19.
